Some words for the year
Every year I ask God for one word to be my focus of the year. He always delivers and usually in the most challenging ways (lol).
This year I was determined to hit the ground running (not literally - you do not want to see me run). I had my one word and I was resolved to do it well. But as 2025 has begun to unfold I’ve realized, it’s not just about one word. It’s about letting others be your resource. And in doing so I’ve discovered that My word isn’t a resolution to do but a substance to marinate in.
My word for the year is listen. At the dawn of 2025 hope renewed in me, propelling me forward in my journey towards listening. And as I sit here now not that far into the year, I’m choosing to allow grace to be my resource.
One of the ways I planned to listen was with a devotional a dear friend got me. With great resolve to read my daily devotions. . . I missed the first three days of the year. And have continuously done so every day or so since.
But here’s the thing. I refuse to start off this brand new year feeling 3 steps behind. So the word of the day if not the year, is grace. I love my new devotional. And on days like today when I’m up at 5am holding a very awake little baby I’m going to savor the cup of coffee and the words for the day. I’m going to hold a little tighter the baby that sleeps better in my arms than the bassinet and a little looser the need to constantly be doing. And tomorrow if I don’t carve out the space for my devotion- I’m going to invite Grace to speak to me instead.
If you haven’t listened for a word of the year yet for 2025, I encourage you to do so. But don’t stop there. Be open to the words, the tools, the resources that make your word worth marinating in.
We listen. We Hope. We have Grace. We get Coffee. We get Rest. We get quiet amongst chaos, slow amongst busy. We get more than we knew to ask for, even when more feels like too much. We get thriving in a season that should be called surviving. We get peace. We get resolve that has nothing to do with a resolution. However today or this week or this year unfolds, let’s make space for what we need and what He has for us.
